OCT Scanning & Digital Imaging
The practice utilises the new state of the art Revo OCT scanner and high resolution fundus camera. It enhances our ability to detect, diagnose and monitor a wide range of eye diseases, so that appropriate treatment can be initiated before your sight is adversely affected. The manufacturer Optopol, is a pioneer in this technology.
The letters OCT stand for Optical Coherence Tomography, which in addition to digital retinal photography, performs 80,000 scans per second of the retina and optic nerve, allowing earlier diagnosis and monitoring of diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. It can help differentiate between those who who need immediate treatment and those who can be monitored, and enables detection before the signs of disease are visible with digital photography. The procedure is quick and painless and is recommended for anyone suspected of developing glaucoma or macular degeneration. Richard will discuss with you whether OCT scanning is appropriate for you at your next eye examination.
